Indigenous Employment Mentor

About the Role


The Indigenous Employment Mentor will provide specialised support services for Indigenous customers commenced in employment services with Workskil Australia.  The Indigenous Employment Mentor will provide both pre-employment and post placement support and activity engagement (in accordance with regional needs) to ensure customers are adequately prepared and motivated for obtaining and maintaining employment.  The Indigenous Employment Mentor will also promote cultural competency within the organisation to support Workskil Australia staff to engage effectively with Indigenous customers in employment services.


You will provide intensive mentoring to Indigenous customers, to ensure their transition into employment is successful and sustained, and build linkages with employers. You will provide intensive mentoring to Indigenous customers from jobactive placements across the region with the aim of ensuring their transition into employment is successful and sustained, with a focus on gaining 4, 12 and 26 week outcomes. You will have established relationships with Indigenous communities in the region through your cultural background and/or extensive experience working with Indigenous people and communities. Experience in the Employment Services industry would be highly regarded. Strong networks in Victoria and an ability to build rapport with a wide range of people will be vital to the success of this role. 


This role is being offered on a full time ongoing basis. Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm with some out of hours work as required.


What we're looking for someone with

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse range of clients, employers and staff;
  • Be Indigenous and/or have extensive experience in working with Indigenous people and communities;
  • Excellent case management skills in assessing, referring and reducing vocational and non-vocational barriers;
  • Driver’s License, reliable car and willingness to travel within the region regularly;
  • Ability/willingness to deliver Cultural Awareness Training/ Cultural Intelligence Workshops to Workskil Australia staff and Employers;
  • Experience mentoring Indigenous job seekers into sustainable employment;
  • High level of interpersonal skills with an ability to represent Workskil Indigenous to a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide expert and operational pre-employment support for customers in Indigenous Mentoring Services;
  • Ability to deliver targeted Indigenous pre-employment programs to address non-vocational barriers to employment;
  • Ability to deliver job club activities, resume workshops and other group sessions as required to drive employment opportunities;
  • Refer and market customers to employment opportunities;
  • Work closely with Site staff, Regional and Indigenous Account Managers to refer and place Indigenous customers into suitable employment opportunities; and
  • Ability to undertake post placement support activities to support customers through to sustainable employment.


Must have car license and willingness to travel extensively through Metropolitan Melbourne and Geelong area.
