About the Role The Youth Job Coach plays a vital role in providing culturally safe, person centred case management and mentorship to approximately 50 Transition to Work (TtW) participants aged 15–24. In this position, you will build strong, respectful relationships with young Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, recognising the importance of cultural identity, family, community and connection to Country in supporting their goals. Community engagement will be an important part of this role, including building and maintaining strong relationships with local organisations, Elders and community networks. The role includes undertaking direct employer engagement, offering individualised support and facilitating group based job search activities that motivate and empower participants toward meaningful outcomes. You will conduct detailed assessments, set achievable goals, help stabilise non vocational challenges and strengthen vocational skills, provide culturally appropriate referrals, and support young people to re‑engage in education or secure sustainable employment, including delivering post‑placement support. This role is being offered on a full-time ongoing basis located at our Redfern site with outreach to our Maroubra and Marrickville sites. About You To be successful in this Identified role, you will be able to: - Work effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, their families, community members, Elders, and a culturally diverse range of people, employers and staff.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of local community contexts, cultures, and the importance of cultural identity, alongside your understanding of industry and the labour market.
- Demonstrate strong case management and motivational skills delivered in a culturally safe, strengths‑based and trauma‑informed manner.
- Use culturally appropriate communication strategies to negotiate customised jobs for participants experiencing barriers to employment.
- Build trust and maintain positive relationships with participants, community stakeholders, employers and colleagues, with a focus on respect, cultural awareness and collaboration.
- Strong task and time management with high attention to detail, data integrity and accurate reporting.
- Demonstrate confidence in using the Microsoft Office suite and general digital literacy, including the ability to type 30 words per minute.
You will also be required to: - Hold a current driver’s licence.
- Hold a current Working with Children Check (or have the ability to obtain one).
- Have experience within Youth, Employment Services or a related industry, ideally involving work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people.
- Hold a minimum Certificate IV in Employment Services, Career Development, Youth Work or a related qualification (or be willing to obtain one).
- Demonstrate experience supporting young people to connect with education, training or meaningful employment, with a commitment to culturally safe practice.
